Traffic Solutions

I grew up in Mill Valley during the fifties. Back then traffic jams were unheard of. What happend? Too many people? Yes! It seems that every ten years or so the Mill Valley City Council pays some traffic specialist thousands of dollars to solve our traffic problems. But does the City Council listen to the solutions offered? No! For the cost of a few gallons of paint, an arterial stop sign, and DO-NOT-ENTER signs, the City can solve its traffic problems overnight: 1. Inbound East Blithedale backups are caused by traffic trying to turn left at Nelson, Amacita and Mill. Solution: Install left hand turn lanes at these intersections so that inbound traffic does not have to wait for turning traffic to complete their turns. 2. Outbound Miller Ave traffic is heavy and makes it difficult for Evergreen and Reed traffic to enter or cross Miller. Solution: Add an arterial stop sign on Miller, at Evergreen. By stopping Miller traffic at Evergreen, it will create enough of a traffic break for Reed and Evergreen traffic to enter/ cross Miller. Note: By eliminating backups at Nelson and Amacita on E. Blithedale, it will also eliminate backups at the E. Blithdale/ Camino Alto intersection and back to the freeway during the peak evening commute hour. Note: Left hand turn lanes on E. Blithedale at Nelson and Amacita should not increase cut-through traffic as some Sycamore Park residents fear. 3. To stop cut-through traffic between E. Blithdale and Sycamore, dead-end La Goma at Sycamore, between Miller and Sycamore. Dead ending La Goma will force cut-through traffic to use Miller. Note: While dead-ending La Goma may sound drastic, its not. What should happen is that cut-through traffic will no longer use La Goma, resulting in an actual speed up of traffic flow along the Miller and E. Blithedale corridors. In my opinion its worth a try to see if these suggestions will actually work. If not they can always be removed as they are not expensive solutions to begin with. Its worth a try.
