Mill Valley needs to draw shifting geographic boundaries for the 5 elementary schools so that every kid can go to their neighborhood school and the same school as the kid next door. It is insane that some people have to drive by 3 elementary schools in Mill Valley to get to their assigned school. It creates a traffic nightmare at 8:30am that can be rectified by creating neighborhood schools. In the neighborhood school concept, you can actually carpool with your neighbors and/or walk or bike to school. The school boundaries can change as demographics change over time but the idea of having your kids go to the same school as your neighbors is an appealing one. It would help to reduce the cross-town traffic before and after the school day. It is not only an environmentally friendly idea but the concept that most school districts across America embrace. |
